MEET RAMI AL-KABRA

When I turned 18, my parents sacrificed a great deal to send me on a one-way trip to America for the promise of a better education and future. I worked hard to get the most from my education and build a better life for my family. Today, I am fortunate to have called Bothell home for the last 12 years and to have raised my children in this community.

Bothell is the kind of community where neighbors step up to organize a weekly “BLM Bothell Run Club” after a Black family expresses concern over the husband’s safety as a jogger. It’s the kind of place that rallies against injustice and celebrates diversity and difference in our lives. I’m proud of the progress we have made as a city. But we must do more. We have to be proactive in resolving known issues that affect our community and livability. I care about maintaining our quality of life while implementing solutions for “green” and equitable urban planning, support for our small businesses, and accountability for our public institutions.

Last year, in the middle of a pandemic, we witnessed the culmination of systemic racism in the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. I couldn’t see this happen without acting. So I, and a few other courageous Bothellites, came together to form Anti-Racist Communities of Bothell to lobby the City Council to establish a Diversity and Equity Program in our city.

In the process, I realized that in order for real change to happen, work needed to happen from inside of City government. We needed our voices in the decision-making process.

Let’s work together to realize a thriving future that is full of opportunities for all community members. I’d be honored to have your vote for Bothell City Council.
