BOTHELL, WA — Rami Al-Kabra, an American Muslim and business leader who immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager and is now raising his family in Bothell, launched his campaign today for Bothell City Council.
Pointing to his track record of building bridges between communities as well as his business acumen, Al-Kabra promises to be a champion for proactive, progressive policy.
In a moment when the City of Bothell is facing unprecedented budgetary and management challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Al-Kabra points to his background as a business leader establishing and leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing multi-million dollar budgets.
“With my engineering and Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degrees, as well as training as a business leader, I can read budgets, analyze information and make hard tradeoff and prioritization decisions. I believe that I would be a good bridge-builder between City Hall and the community so that we could craft solutions that really last.”
In 2020, on the heels of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd, he co-founded the BLM Bothell Run Club after a Black family expressed concern over their safety when jogging in Bothell. BLM Bothell Run Club’s mission is to build community, be healthy, and simultaneously raise awareness of the current anxieties and struggles faced by Black members of our community.
"In 2020, after years of advocacy and bridge-building in the community, I joined other Bothelites in advocating to advance equity and inclusion policy through our city council,” says Al-Kabra. “But, we ran into resistance at City Hall from a government that wasn’t ready to adapt to meet the changing times.”
“I’m running for office to be a voice in City Hall for the growing community of Bothellites who are stepping up to create a modern vision for a more inclusive and equitable Bothell."
